Lab Experiments
Our Laboratory Experiments are structured for in-lab, instructor-guided activities, typically designed as focused three-hour sessions. The experiments range from standalone exercises to multi-session projects, enabling students to progressively develop and validate complete systems. This format encourages structured exploration, teamwork, and real-time troubleshooting within a supervised laboratory environment.
ZumoPi
ZumoPi is a compact robot platform built around the Pololu Zumo chassis and controlled by a Raspberry Pi. This project is used in various educational settings to demonstrate real-world applications of embedded systems, sensor integration, and autonomous control. The slides below cover topics such as configuring embedded hardware, implementing control loops, and developing path-following algorithms. The goal is to give students hands-on experience with building, programming, and testing autonomous robots.
HexaMotor
HexaMotor is a hands-on experimental platform designed for university-level education, emphasizing the nuances of position and velocity control. Powered by Simulink, it not only generates the code for the embedded setup but also serves as an intuitive interface. This design choice allows students to concentrate on control implementation rather than the intricacies of code writing. With a foundation built around a DC motor, HexaMotor offers a tangible experience of system dynamics and control.
Discrete Control
The Discrete Control Experiment introduces students to discrete-time control of a DC motor using both simulation and hardware. The setup pairs an Arduino Uno with a micro DC gear motor, magnetic encoder, and Ardumoto shield, allowing students to compare Simulink/MATLAB simulations with real-world system responses while implementing core control concepts.
