The Control & Autonomous Systems Lab
Tel Aviv University

The Control and Autonomous Systems Lab at Tel Aviv University, part of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, is an advanced educational lab for final-year B.Sc. students.
The lab provides hands-on experience with modern control and autonomous systems through a series of structured experiments that bridge theoretical concepts and real-world implementation. Students work with dynamical systems, feedback control, estimation, and autonomy-related algorithms, gaining practical skills in modeling, analysis, and experimental validation.

Advancing Education Through Open-Source Laboratories

The Control and Autonomous Systems Lab is part of the Advanced Laboratories program of the School of Electrical Engineering at Tel Aviv University. Designed for fourth-year B.Sc. students specializing in control and autonomous systems, the lab provides hands-on experience to approximately 200 students each year. The experiments developed in the lab are released as open-source systems, enabling reproducibility and encouraging adoption by other institutions. Beyond their academic use, these materials serve as reference designs and implementation examples that students can revisit in later stages of their professional careers. All lab materials are available through the lab website and the public repository: https://github.com/TALs-Education.

Latest Systems

ZumoPi V02 – Hands-On Autonomous Robotics Platform

The ZumoPi V02 is a compact educational robotics platform used in the Control and Autonomous Systems Lab to teach embedded systems, sensor integration, and autonomous control. Built around a tracked Pololu Zumo chassis and powered by a Raspberry Pi, ZumoPi allows students to apply theoretical concepts in real hardware, from configuring embedded components and implementing control loops to developing path-following and perception algorithms. The latest version (V02) provides a versatile testbed for hands-on learning in robotics, real-time system design, and autonomous navigation. All software, instructional slides, and supporting materials are openly available, enabling students to reproduce, extend, and reuse the system as a reference for future projects: https://github.com/TALs-Education/ZumoPi
